Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google…Oh My!

First, Microsoft makes an offer to buy Yahoo. Yahoo declines. Next, Yahoo decides to collaborate with Google on Advertising in an attempt to secure future growth. Next, government regulators threaten to stop the deal so Google backs out.
What happens next? Can Microsoft acquire Yahoo at a lower price? Will Yahoo develop a new viable growth strategy that allows them to remain competitive?

At any rate, I own Yahoo stock and I need the value to go up so I can win a stock market bet I have going with a few fellow co-workers.

Google Trends

Interested in comparing two keywords to determine which one is more searched?
Try Google Trends.
Google Trends gives you a great visual for searched terms. Do you see a spike it traffic one day? Google will show what news or event occured that day, thus showing the root cause of the spike in traffic. You can even see the top cities where the searches are coming from.

From this data, you can see that the term “Obama” is searched more than “McCain”.

Google Acquires DoubleClick

After gaining European Union approval, Google has closed its $3.1 billion acquisition of DoubleClick.

DoubleClick helps its customers place online ads in a strategic manner, increasing advertising effectiveness and providing detailed information for ROI.

Search Driven Copywriting - Using Keyword Research to Write in the Voice of Your Audience

As marketers we constantly try to write compelling copy that motivates people to take some sort of action. The trick is to write in the voice of our target audience; speaking to them using language they respond to.  Sometimes we use focus groups or surveys to help with this; getting out in the field and talking to prospects/customers also helps. In the end though, the words we choose often amount to best guesses. Perhaps this is why marketers are sometimes looked negatively upon - especially those in the high tech industry. Maybe we are just not speaking our audience’s language. If only there was a thesaurus of words to use when writing for a specific audience. What if I told you there was?
