What is a webcast?
Webcasts, also known as webinars, are short, live, online presentations (usually lasting an hour) directed at an audience for the purpose of education. The presentation is created in Powerpoint which attendees can access through a special URL. The presentation audio is heard by dialing in to a designated hotline.

What are the benefits?
Webcasts are a great way to promote your product to a large audience. We use them to keep our customers updated on our latest technologies. You can either promote your webcast to your current prospect list, or you can pay a company to advertise it for you. Once your webcast has been recorded, you can offer it on-demand by creating a landing page with a sign-up form to record leads, or you can once again pay a company to syndicate it for you.
Which company do I choose?
Be wary when selecting a company to produce your webcast for you. Some companies are plagued with delay, poor voice quality and unreliable connections so make sure you choose a reputable organization. After Cisco merged with WebEx, their pricing structure increased. While WebEx is a great service, there are other companies that offer similar features for much less money. My favorite is Microsoft Live Meeting. It costs me one-third of what WebEx quoted me for a final price of $3,100 per webcast.
How do I do it?
If you use your own customer/prospect list to promote the event, use in-house experts to speak, and offer the webcast on demand via your corporate website, you should be able to produce a webcast for a rather insignificant cost.
I produced one webcast in May that resulted in 575 responses and $730,210 in opportunities. This webcast was done using WebEx for $6,700. This means is only cost us $11.65 per lead which was a great result.
I have written out a process that I follow whenever I produce a webcast. Feel free to check it out using the link below.
